Born and raised in Kailua, Oahu, Mike graduated from Kamehameha Schools. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Weber State University, where he also played quarterback.

After graduating, Mike worked in business management and sales for several years. He then attended the William S. Richardson School of Law at the University of Hawaii. Mike served on Law Review, earned the CALI Excellence for the Future Award for obtaining the highest grade in three courses, and graduated magna cum laude.

After graduating law school, Mike worked as a litigation associate at Hawaii’s largest full-service law firm. Mike’s work involved all aspects of civil litigation across multiple practice areas, including construction, employment, business, bankruptcy, and personal injury. Thereafter, Mike transitioned to criminal practice as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney for the City and County of Honolulu. He prosecuted a wide range of cases and gained extensive courtroom experience, including bench and jury trials. Mike has successfully represented clients in state, federal, and bankruptcy court, as well as in arbitrations and mediations.

Mike and his wife moved back to Maui, her hometown, to raise their son. They enjoy spending time with family and watching their young son, nephews, and niece grow.
